There's no shortage of places offering an ECU remap in Málaga. So here's how we do it in La Línea, and you can decide whether it's worth the 130 km trip.
We start with the engine, not the laptop. We read stored fault codes, check plugs and coils, look for boost leaks and check the clutch. An engine with a hidden problem doesn't get better with more power; it gets worse. If we find something, we tell you before going any further and the decision is yours.
Then we talk about how you drive. Someone heading into the centre from Teatinos every morning, stop-start on a busy ring road, wants low-down response and an automatic gearbox that doesn't judder, not a number on a printout. Someone heading into the hills at the weekend wants something else. We save a copy of the original software before writing the map, then road-test and log engine data before the car goes back to you.
We also write pops and bangs maps for those who ask, knowing they make the car louder and can cause trouble at the ITV or MOT. Keeping the car road legal is the owner's responsibility.

Frequently asked questions
Why come to La Línea when there are remappers in Málaga?
If you already have a tuner you trust nearby, there's no need. It makes sense if you want the health check first, if you're pairing the map with a custom exhaust or downpipe, or if you want one workshop to handle the whole package.
Can I go back to the standard software?
On most cars, yes, because we keep a copy of the original before changing anything. Ask us about your model.
Will a remap damage my engine?
A sensible map on a healthy engine shouldn't, but it asks more of the clutch, turbo and cooling. That's why we check the car first and tell you if anything needs fixing.
Do I need to tell my insurer?
Yes, you should declare the modification. It can also affect the ITV, the MOT and emissions rules; keeping the car road legal is the owner's responsibility.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the car and engine. Send us the make, model, year and engine and we quote after seeing the details.
