A lot of the BMWs on the Rock are rear-wheel-drive cars that never get to stretch their legs. If you're thinking of a remap or exhaust on a B58 or S55 car, we look the car over first, because software on an engine with a fault only makes the fault louder.

Getting your BMW here from Gibraltar
It's about 2 km from the frontier to the workshop in La Línea: around 5 minutes driving, and 35 minutes on foot if you're heading back without the car. You can drive straight over.

Oil leaks on the straight-six
The oil filter housing gasket and rocker cover gasket on N52, N55 and B58 engines are known to leak with age, sometimes onto the auxiliary belt.
N47 diesel timing chain
The 2.0 diesel in many 2007–2014 cars (118d, 320d, 520d) has its timing chain at the back of the engine. A rattle at idle is the warning sign and worth acting on quickly.
M car servicing
Plugs, coil packs, diff oil and brakes on the F80 M3, F82 M4, M2 Competition and the G80/G82. The S55 crank hub is a well-known talking point among owners; ask us and we'll explain the options.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth bringing a BMW over the border?
It depends on the job. For a basic oil change, maybe not. For diagnostics, M car work, fabrication or a remap, being 2 km away makes it easy. Ask for a quote and compare.
Do you take pounds?
Yes. We accept pounds sterling, though euros are preferred.
Will a remap affect my Gibraltar insurance?
Insurers expect to be told about modifications, in Gibraltar as anywhere else. Keeping the car insured, and legal for its MOT, is the owner's responsibility.
My N47 diesel rattles at idle. Can I still drive it?
We'd stop driving it until it's checked. If the timing chain lets go, the damage to the engine is usually far worse than the repair would have been.
Do you need to register a new battery on a BMW?
On most modern BMWs, yes. The car adjusts how it charges based on the battery it thinks is fitted, so a new one needs coding in.
