SRM Performance is a Volkswagen mechanic for Gibraltar drivers, about 2 km over the frontier in La Línea. VW is the backbone of our VAG work: Golf GTI and Golf R, Polo GTI, Tiguan, T-Roc and the Transporter vans that tradespeople rely on.
Two very different kinds of Volkswagen cross from Gibraltar. One is the hot hatch, a Golf R or GTI that does short runs during the week and wants proper attention when it's time for a DSG service or a remap. The other is the working van, where every day off the road costs money, so the job needs doing once and doing right.
For both, the process is the same: send the reg and the symptom on WhatsApp, drive over, and we diagnose before quoting. If you'd rather not wait, leave it with us and we can drop you back at the frontier. Collection and delivery is also possible, priced on request depending on where you are. We also do the jobs VWs need with age, such as timing belts on the TDI engines, clutches and dual-mass flywheels.

Crossing over with your VW
From the frontier it's about 2 km to the workshop, roughly 5 minutes at the wheel. Leaving a van or car with us and going back on foot takes 35 minutes. You can drive straight over.
Volkswagen jobs we see
DSG service
The six-speed wet-clutch DQ250 in many GTIs and Golf Rs needs fresh oil and a filter every 60,000 km or so. It's the cheapest insurance a DSG owner can buy.
TDI timing belts
The 1.6 and 2.0 TDI engines (EA189 and EA288) use a cambelt with a fixed interval in years as well as kilometres. Low-mileage Gibraltar cars often reach the age limit first.
Transporter clutch and flywheel
T5 and T6 vans working hard around town wear clutches and dual-mass flywheels. A rattle at idle that disappears when you press the clutch is the classic sign.
Golf GTI and R remaps
The EA888 2.0 TSI responds well to software, with or without supporting parts. We check the car first and map to your spec.

Frequently asked questions
How often does a DSG gearbox need servicing?
The wet-clutch six-speed (DQ250) is usually every 60,000 km. The dry seven-speed DQ200 has no routine oil change. Send us the reg and we'll tell you which one you have.
My Golf has low mileage. Does it still need a timing belt?
Probably. Belts have an age limit as well as a mileage limit, and rubber ages whether the car moves or not. Check the service book or ask us.
Can you get my van back on the road quickly?
It depends on the vehicle and the job; we tell you when we quote.
Do you work on Gibraltar-registered VWs?
Yes. Gibraltar, Spanish and UK registered cars all come to the same workshop and get the same diagnosis and quote.
