For a Seat and Cupra mechanic for Gibraltar, SRM Performance is about 2 km over the frontier in La Línea. Seat is a Spanish brand built in Martorell, and Cupra, its performance arm since 2018, shares engines and gearboxes with the rest of the VAG group we work on every week.
That shared hardware is useful to know. The 2.0 TSI in a Leon Cupra 290 or a Formentor VZ is a close relative of the engine in a Golf R, so the known faults, the service points and what a remap can do are well understood. The naming catches people out, though. A 2016 'Leon Cupra' is a Seat; a 2021 'Cupra Leon' is a Cupra, and the parts and software differ between them.

Formentor VZ and Cupra Ateca
The 310 hp and 300 hp 2.0 TSI cars use the seven-speed wet-clutch DQ381. Its oil and filter service is easy to overlook.
1.5 TSI hesitation
Some early 1.5 TSI cars (Ibiza FR, Arona, Leon) are known for a hesitant, jerky feel when cold. A diagnosis and software check is the starting point.

Check the badge and the logbook. Cars before about 2018 are Seats, with Cupra as a model name. Later cars may be registered as Cupra. Send us the reg and we'll confirm.
How much power can a Formentor VZ gain from a remap?
It depends on the car's condition and what's fitted, so we won't quote figures before seeing it. We'll tell you what's realistic after a health check.
Will a pops and bangs map get me into trouble?
It can. It makes the car louder and may cause problems at an MOT, ITV or roadside check. We do it on request, but think it through first.
Can you collect from Gibraltar?
