Seat and Cupra specialist in La Línea

SRM Performance is a Seat and Cupra specialist in La Línea de la Concepción, about 2 km from the Gibraltar border. We look after everything from an everyday Ibiza or Leon TDI to a Formentor VZ5.

Under the skin, Seat and Cupra are pure VAG: the same TSI and TDI engines, the same DSG gearboxes and the same Haldex-based 4Drive as a Golf or an Audi A3. That means we know where to look when something goes wrong, and which parts cope well when you want more power.

The previous-generation Leon Cupra (280, 290 and 300) and the current Cupra Leon and Formentor are among the cars we're asked to tune most: custom exhausts, remaps, valved systems. We also do the everyday work, though: services, cambelts, clutches and fault-finding.

We're not a Seat or Cupra dealer. We're an independent mechanical, fabrication and tuning workshop, and we'll tell you what we're going to do and what it costs before we start.

Common Seat and Cupra faults and jobs

  • Low-speed hesitation on the 1.5 TSI

The 130 and 150 PS 1.5 TSI (Leon, Ateca, Arona, Formentor) has a well-known kangaroo-hop at low speed from cold on some cars. A manufacturer software update sometimes sorts it, so it's worth diagnosing properly before throwing parts at it.

  • PCV valve and coolant leaks on the 2.0 TSI

On the EA888 in Cupra models, a failed crankcase breather (PCV) valve is common (listen for a whistle or a hunting idle), as are coolant leaks from the plastic water pump and thermostat housing.

  • DSG and gearbox oil

The wet-clutch DSG in Cupra models needs regular oil changes, especially once the car is remapped. On Seats with the seven-speed dry-clutch DSG, judder pulling away is a known symptom. We repair DSG mechatronic units and do the oil changes.

  • Haldex on 4Drive cars

The four-wheel-drive Ateca, Leon ST Cupra and Formentor VZ and VZ5 use a Haldex coupling. Its oil and filter are often forgotten, and the car quietly stops sending drive to the rear.

  • TDI cambelts

The 1.6 and 2.0 TDI engines in the Leon, Ibiza, Ateca and Alhambra are belt-driven. We replace the belt with the tensioner, idlers and water pump.

  • Cupra exhausts and maps

Custom stainless cat-back systems, downpipes, exhaust valves and remaps, including pops and bangs maps if you want them. These can affect the ITV or MOT, and keeping the car road-legal is the owner's responsibility.

Frequently asked questions

What upgrades are worth doing on a Leon Cupra?

That depends on how you use it. Start with a health check: plugs, coils, boost leaks and the clutch. Then we can look at a map, an exhaust or both, without promising figures before we've seen the car.

My Cupra is new. Can you service it?

As general information, EU rules let you have the car serviced at an independent garage without losing the manufacturer's warranty, provided the schedule is followed and parts of matching quality are used. Bear in mind that remapping or modifying the car can affect the warranty.

Do you do pops and bangs maps on Cupras?

Yes, on request. They make the car louder and can cause problems at the ITV or MOT or at a roadside check, so think it through first.

Are you a Seat or Cupra dealer?

No. We're an independent workshop in La Línea working on VAG cars every day.
