SERVICE 08 · AIR SUSPENSION

Air suspension in La Línea

We fit air suspension and lowering kits in La Línea de la Concepción, a short drive from the Gibraltar border. Your car sits low when you want it to and lifts up when you need it to.

What air suspension is

Air suspension swaps the steel springs for air bags. A compressor fills a tank, and a valve block sends air to each corner. Using a remote, a controller or a phone app, depending on the system, you can raise or lower the car in seconds.

The point is that you don't have to choose. The car can sit right down when it's parked, then lift up for speed bumps, car park ramps or a steep driveway. Many systems let you save preset heights so you're not adjusting it every time.

If you'd rather keep things simple, we also fit lowering kits: shorter springs or coilovers that drop the car to a fixed height and, depending on the kit, firm up the ride. What goes on is decided with you, based on how you use the car.

Why people fit it

These are the reasons we hear most:

  • Lowering the car for the look, without dreading every speed bump, ramp or kerb.
  • Being able to raise it when the car's loaded up or the road's rough.
  • Running bigger wheels with the arches sitting tight over the tyres.
  • A show car that's still usable for the rest of the week.
  • A fixed, firmer drop on springs or coilovers, if you'd rather do without a compressor and air lines.

How we do it

  1. STEP 01

    Check and chat

We look over the car, the current suspension, wheels and tyres, and talk about how you use it and the stance you're after.

  2. STEP 02

    Choose the setup

We go through the options between air, coilovers and springs, and you get a quote before work starts.

  3. STEP 03

    Fitting

The struts or bags go on, and for air suspension the compressor, tank, valve block and air lines too, with wiring protected and properly secured.

  4. STEP 04

    Setting the heights

Heights are set and we check the wheels don't foul anywhere through their travel, with the steering on full lock.

  5. STEP 05

    Leak check and road test

We check for air leaks, road test the car and show you how to use the system. After lowering, the wheel alignment should be checked.

Frequently asked questions

Will air suspension pass the ITV or MOT?

Changing the suspension or ride height can affect the ITV in Spain (or the MOT in Gibraltar), and keeping the car road legal is the owner's responsibility. Before fitting anything, we'll explain what each option involves, and we can help with the ITV and homologation process.

Air suspension or coilovers?

Air lets you change the height whenever you like; coilovers give a fixed height, are usually firmer and don't need a compressor. It comes down to how you use the car and how low you want it.

Do I need an alignment after lowering?

Yes. Changing the ride height changes the wheel angles, and they should be checked so your tyres don't wear unevenly. We do the alignment here in the workshop.

Do you repair factory air suspension?

Yes. Some cars come with air suspension from the factory, such as certain Mercedes, Porsche and Jaguar models, and we repair those systems too. If you'd rather go back to conventional springs, we can also convert it to coils.

Can I drive it low every day?

With air suspension, yes: raise it for speed bumps and drop it when you park. With a fixed drop you need to take more care on ramps and kerbs.
