SERVICE 03 · TIG WELDING AND FABRICATION
TIG welding and fabrication in La Línea
We do TIG welding and fabrication in La Línea de la Concepción, right by the Gibraltar border. Stainless steel and aluminium, for new parts or for repairing the ones you've got.
What TIG welding is
TIG welding uses a tungsten electrode to strike the arc, with filler rod fed in by hand and the weld pool shielded by inert gas. It's slower than other methods, but it gives a lot of control: neat, clean welds with no spatter.
That's why it's the method of choice for stainless steel and aluminium, two materials that don't forgive mistakes. Aluminium in particular oxidises on the surface and conducts heat very well, so the part has to be properly prepared and the heat carefully controlled to get a strong joint.
On cars it's used for exhausts, intake and intercooler pipework, brackets and one-off parts, and for repairing metal parts that have cracked or broken. At SRM we weld stainless steel and aluminium, and every job is done to the spec we agree with you.
What it's used for
Some of the jobs people bring to us for TIG work:
- Custom intercooler and intake pipework in stainless steel or aluminium.
- Exhausts, tailpipes and centre sections in stainless steel.
- Brackets, mounts and parts you can't buy off the shelf, for example for an engine swap or an unusual fitment.
- Repairing cracked aluminium parts instead of buying new, where the part allows it.
- Non-car work too, such as motorbike parts or one-off jobs.
How we work
STEP 01
Tell us about the job
Send us photos on WhatsApp or bring the part or the car in. We look at the material, its condition and what you need.
STEP 02
An honest answer
Not every part is worth welding. If we don't think it'll come out well, or a new part makes more sense, we'll say so. If it's a goer, you get a quote.
STEP 03
Preparation
The part is cleaned, degreased and fitted up. A good weld depends a lot on what happens before the torch is lit.
STEP 04
Welding and finishing
We TIG-weld with the right filler for the material and tidy up the finish where needed.
STEP 05
Check and hand over
We inspect the joint and, if the part goes on the car, fit it and check for leaks or play.
Cars we see a lot of
Much of our fabrication work is on VAG group cars, Mercedes and AMG, BMW, Porsche and Jaguar, often alongside a remap or a new exhaust.
Typical models
- Volkswagen Golf GTI
- Volkswagen Golf R
- Audi S3
- Audi RS3
- Cupra Leon

Frequently asked questions
Do you weld aluminium?
Yes, we TIG-weld both aluminium and stainless steel. With aluminium, the result depends a lot on the condition of the part, so it's best if we see it first.
Why TIG rather than MIG?
MIG is quicker and fine for plenty of steel work, but TIG gives more control over heat and a cleaner, neater weld. On thin stainless tube or aluminium, where too much heat distorts or weakens the metal, that control makes the difference, and the finished welds look tidier too.
Can a cracked aluminium part be welded?
Often, yes, as long as the aluminium isn't badly oil-soaked or fatigued. If we think the repair won't last, we'll tell you and won't do it.
Can I just bring the part in, without the car?
Yes, you can bring in just the part. Message us with photos first so we can check it's doable.
Do you make custom intercooler pipes?
Yes. It's a typical TIG job, in stainless steel or aluminium, made to suit each car and whatever else is fitted.
