SERVICE 09 · CLASSIC CAR RESTORATION

Classic car restoration in La Línea

We do classic car restoration in La Línea de la Concepción, just over the border from Gibraltar. Bodywork, paint and mechanical work under one roof, done carefully and explained as we go.

What restoring a classic involves

Restoring a classic means bringing it back to a sound, usable condition while respecting what the car is. It doesn't always mean stripping it down to the last bolt. Sometimes it's a case of sorting the rust, bringing the mechanicals up to date and painting it; other cars need a full restoration, back to a bare shell with every part checked.

The first job is agreeing what you want from the car: a weekend driver, something as close to original as possible, or a middle ground with a few sensible reliability upgrades. That decision shapes the work, the timescale and the cost, so we talk it through before anything is touched.

Very little on a classic is standard. Parts go out of production, panels have been patched badly in the past and decades of corrosion can hide under the paint. That's why we work in stages and show you what we find, rather than giving you a fixed figure blind.

Signs it's time

These are the most common reasons people come to us about a restoration:

  • Rust bubbling through the wheel arches, door bottoms, sills or boot floor.
  • A car that has been laid up for years and needs to start, stop and drive safely again.
  • Paint that is cracked, faded or covered in old repairs you can spot from across the road.
  • Oil leaks, perished rubbers, and brakes and hoses that are well past their best.
  • An inherited or newly bought classic you want sorting properly from day one.
  • Getting a classic through its ITV or MOT after years without a thorough check.

How we approach a classic

  1. STEP 01

    Inspection and photos

We go over the car thoroughly, top and underneath, and photograph it as it arrives. That gives a record of its starting condition and of every part before it comes off.

  2. STEP 02

    A staged plan and quote

We explain what we've found and suggest a plan in stages, quoted before work starts. If something hidden turns up once panels come off, we show you and agree the next step together.

  3. STEP 03

    Strip-down and cleaning back

We remove what needs removing, bag and label the parts, and take paint and rust back to clean metal so we can see the true state of the bodywork.

  4. STEP 04

    Metalwork and mechanicals

Rotten metal is cut out and new steel welded in, and the engine, brakes, suspension and anything else needed are brought up to a reliable standard.

  5. STEP 05

    Preparation and paint

Primer, flatting and paint, built up in layers with proper drying time, so the finish lasts rather than just looking good on collection day.

  6. STEP 06

    Rebuild and handover

We reassemble, adjust and road test the car, then hand it over with a run-through of the work and the photos taken along the way.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to restore the whole car in one go?

No. It can be done in stages: the urgent things first, such as structural rust, brakes and mechanicals, with paint or the interior later on. We plan it around your budget and priorities.

Do you source parts for classics?

Yes, we can source parts for classics. We'll tell you what's needed and the options: original, reproduction, or repairing the part already on the car.

Do you do concours-standard restorations?

Yes, we take on concours-level work. What matters is that you tell us at the start how original you want the car to be, as it changes both the work and the cost.

Will you keep me updated while the car is with you?

Yes. We send photos and let you know what we're finding, especially when something turns up that wasn't visible at the start and a decision is needed.

I live in Gibraltar. Can I bring my classic over?

Of course. We're in La Línea, close to the border. Send us a WhatsApp with photos of the car and what you'd like done, and we'll tell you how we see it.
