Headlight restoration in La Línea
We do headlight restoration in La Línea de la Concepción, close to the Gibraltar border. Yellowed, hazy lenses brought back to clear, so your car lights the road properly again.
Why headlights go yellow
Almost every modern headlight has a polycarbonate lens, a light plastic that stands up well to stone chips. It leaves the factory with a UV-resistant coating, but years of sun, car washes and road grit break that coating down. The plastic oxidises, turns yellow, fills with fine cracks and loses its clarity.
It isn't just about looks. A hazy lens scatters light instead of projecting it, so you see less at night and the beam can dazzle oncoming drivers. With the amount of sun we get down here all year round, we see it a lot, even on cars that aren't especially old.
Restoring a headlight means sanding off the damaged layer in stages, polishing the lens back to clear and, most importantly, sealing the plastic again. Polish without sealing and the lens will start yellowing again within months.
When it's worth doing
It's worth looking at your headlights if you notice any of these:
- The lenses look yellow, dull or have milky patches.
- You're seeing less at night, or the light looks diffused.
- The ITV or MOT is due: very hazy lenses or a poor beam pattern can cause problems at the test.
- You're selling the car and want it to look its best.
- You've fitted new bulbs and barely noticed the difference.
How we do it
STEP 01
Check
We look at the headlight inside and out. If the dirt or moisture is inside, or the reflector is burnt, polishing won't fix it, and we'll tell you before we start.
STEP 02
Protecting the paint
The bodywork and trim around the light are masked off so sanding doesn't touch the paint.
STEP 03
Staged wet sanding
We wet sand from coarse to fine grit until the oxidised layer is gone and the surface is even.
STEP 04
Polishing
We machine polish with progressively finer compounds until the lens is clear again.
STEP 05
Sealing and handover
A UV-protective coat goes on and is left to cure, and you get the car back with a matching pair of clear headlights.

Frequently asked questions
How long does the result last?
Mostly it depends on the sealing afterwards, how much sun the car gets and how it's washed. A polished and sealed lens lasts far longer than one that's only been polished, which can yellow again within a few months.
Will it help my car pass the ITV or MOT?
If the problem is a hazy lens, restoring it improves the light output. It won't fix a damaged reflector, moisture inside or badly aimed lights, and we'll tell you about any of those when we check it.
Wouldn't it be better to replace the headlights?
If the unit is cracked, has moisture inside or the reflector is burnt, yes. If it's only yellowed on the outside, restoring it is usually a lot cheaper than new units, especially on cars with xenon or LED headlights.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes, the work is guaranteed. If anything doesn't look right afterwards, get in touch and we'll take a look.
How should I look after them?
Wash them with a neutral shampoo and a soft sponge, avoid abrasive products and, if the car is parked outside, an occasional UV protectant helps the result last longer.
