The six-speed wet DSG needs a fluid service at set mileages, a lot of 1.6 and 2.0 TDIs reach their timing belt change with a water pump that's already on its way out, and early TSI petrol engines can give timing chain scares. How often does a Golf TDI timing belt need changing?
It depends on the engine and year, and Volkswagen has changed the interval more than once. Give us the exact engine or the registration and we'll tell you the interval and the price for the full kit.
Does a DSG gearbox need servicing?
The six-speed wet DSG does need periodic oil changes. The seven-speed dry box doesn't, but it's worth diagnosing if it judders.
What can be done with a standard Golf GTI?
A remap alone changes the way it drives a lot. If you want to go further, a custom exhaust or downpipe can be added. We'll talk it through based on how you use the car, and remind you it can affect the ITV.
