Driving route to the workshop
Anyone who has spent a week in Tarifa knows what the wind does. Levante or poniente, it drives fine sand into air filters, brakes, wheel bearings and door seals, and the salty air off the Strait goes to work on underbodies, exhausts, mounting points and any exposed electrical connector. A vehicle that lives here ages differently from one inland, and it pays to check it with that in mind.
It is also not a town of hatchbacks alone. There are camper vans everywhere, some belonging to kitesurfers and windsurfers who follow the wind, others to people working at the schools and rental shops, and plenty of 4x4s heading down to the beaches at Valdevaqueros, Los Lances and Bolonia or up to fincas inland. They tend to carry weight, park on sand and gravel, and rack up the miles. We work on vans and 4x4s as well as cars.
Otherwise, what comes to us from Tarifa is repair work: brakes squealing from sand, clutches worn on the steep streets of the old town, suspension that has met one pothole too many, warning lights, and rust where there should not be any. We diagnose first, explain what we have found and give you a price before anything is touched.
Forty kilometres along the N-340 does not take long, but nobody wants a wasted trip. Send us photos or a video on WhatsApp first and we will have things ready for when you arrive.
Repairs, vans and 4x4s
For Tarifa, most of the work is putting right what wind, sand and salt wear away: brakes, suspension, clutches, exhausts and underbodies. If you have a camper van or a 4x4, tell us what it is and what it is doing before you come over. Related services:
Frequently asked questions
Do you work on camper vans and 4x4s?
Yes, we work on camper vans and 4x4s. Message us on WhatsApp with the make, model and the problem, and we will come back to you with a quote.
What do Tarifa's sand and salt do to a car?
Sand wears pads and discs, gets into filters and rubber boots and speeds up wear on seals. Salt corrodes the underbody, exhaust, suspension mounts and electrical connectors. An occasional underbody wash and regular checks make a real difference.
My van is always fully loaded. What should I have checked?
Brakes, dampers, springs, wheel bearings and tyres all work harder under weight. If you live in it or travel long distances, it is worth checking the timing belt and cooling system before a big trip.
Can you give me an idea over WhatsApp before I drive over?
Yes, and we recommend it. Send photos, a video of the noise and the vehicle details, and we will tell you what it looks like and whether to order any parts before you come.
