SRM Performance is a Porsche mechanic for Gibraltar owners, about 2 km over the frontier in La Línea de la Concepción. Porsche is one of the makes we see most, from 996 and 997 Carreras to Caymans, Macans and Cayennes.
A Porsche on the Rock has a particular problem: it doesn't get used. A 911 that lives in a garage near Ocean Village and comes out for a few short runs a week rarely gets its oil properly hot, and flat-six engines don't like that. Fuel and moisture stay in the oil, seals harden with age rather than mileage, and batteries go flat. Many of the faults we'd look for on a Gibraltar Porsche come from standing still rather than from being driven hard.
Bring it over and we start with a proper look: fault codes, a check of oil and coolant, and a conversation about how you use the car. You get a quote before any work. Leave it with us if that suits you, and we can drop you back at the frontier. If the car needs a drive afterwards, the roads inland from the coast are a much better place to do it than Queensway.

From the Gibraltar frontier
About 2 km separates the frontier from the workshop: roughly 5 minutes driving and 35 minutes walking back. Just drive across.
Porsche work we're asked about
996 and 997 IMS bearing
The intermediate shaft bearing on M96 and early M97 engines is the Porsche worry owners ask about first. We can talk you through the risk and fit an upgraded bearing.
Bore scoring checks
The 997.1 3.8 and the early Cayenne V8s are known for bore scoring. A tick on cold start, sooty tailpipes on one bank or rising oil use are reasons to investigate.
Cayenne V8 coolant pipes
The plastic coolant pipes in the vee of the 4.5 and 4.8 V8 are known to crack. We replace them.
PDK and Macan servicing
PDK gearbox fluid, plugs, coils and brakes on the Macan S, GTS and 991-era cars, plus air suspension faults on Cayenne and Panamera.

Frequently asked questions
My 911 barely moves. Does it still need an annual service?
Yes. Oil degrades with time, especially on a car that's only run cold, and brake fluid absorbs moisture whether you drive or not. Annual servicing matters more on a low-mileage Porsche, not less.
Do you work on supercars as well?
Yes, we work on supercars too. Message us with the car and what it needs.
Can you prepare my Porsche for its Gibraltar MOT?
We don't issue Gibraltar MOTs; the test is done in Gibraltar. We can prepare the car for it.
Do you take payment in pounds?
Yes. We accept pounds sterling, though euros are preferred.
Does my 997 have the IMS bearing problem?
Only earlier cars. The 997.2 from 2009 onwards uses the 9A1 engine, which has no intermediate shaft bearing. The 996 and 997.1 do, and that's where the conversation is worth having.
