Porsche specialist in La Línea

SRM Performance is an independent Porsche specialist in La Línea de la Concepción, about 2 km from the Gibraltar border. We look after the 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne and Macan, both standard and modified.

Porsche is one of the makes we see regularly, and it isn't just 911s. Cayennes and Macans are everyday cars on this coast, and first-generation Boxsters and Caymans are now at the age where they need proper attention.

A well-kept Porsche will go on for a very long time, but every generation has its known weak spots. On the 996 and early 997 it's the intermediate shaft bearing; on first-generation Cayenne V8s, the coolant pipes; and on nearly all of them, an oil weep from the rear main seal.

We're not an official Porsche Centre. We're a mechanical, fabrication and tuning workshop, which means we can carry out careful servicing and also build a custom stainless exhaust, TIG-welded in-house.

Known Porsche issues and jobs

  • IMS bearing on the 996, 997 and Boxster

The M96 and M97 engines (911 996, early 997, Boxster 986 and 987, Cayman 987) use an intermediate shaft bearing that can fail and take the engine with it. Many owners replace it as a precaution, often alongside a clutch. We replace IMS bearings in the workshop.

  • Cayenne V8 coolant pipes

On the 955 and 957 Cayenne V8, the plastic coolant pipes under the intake crack with heat and age. Coolant goes missing, sometimes with nothing visible outside. We replace these pipes in the workshop.

  • Rear main seal

An oil drip between engine and gearbox is typical on water-cooled 911s and Boxsters. The usual approach is to replace the seal while the gearbox is out for a clutch.

  • Bore scoring on the 997

Some early 997 3.6 and 3.8 engines are known for bore scoring. Oil consumption, blue smoke and a light tick from one bank are the things to watch for. The first step is a proper diagnosis.

  • Exhaust valves and custom exhausts

Sports exhaust flaps seize and their actuators fail, and we repair them. We also build custom exhausts and valved systems to the owner's spec; these can affect the ITV or MOT, and keeping the car road-legal is the owner's responsibility.

  • PDK and Tiptronic servicing

Gearbox oil changes and general servicing on the Macan, Panamera, Cayenne and 911 with PDK or Tiptronic, to the manufacturer's schedule.

Frequently asked questions

Do you take high-end models like the GT3 or Turbo?

We work on both standard and modified Porsches. For a specific model, message us first with the details and what you need. That includes air-cooled 911s.

Should I replace the IMS bearing on my 996?

It depends on the engine, the year and whether it's already been done. It's a decision best made with the car's history in front of you, so send it over and we'll talk it through.

Will using an independent garage affect my warranty?

As general information, EU rules allow servicing at an independent garage without losing the manufacturer's warranty, provided the schedule is followed and parts of matching quality are used. Warranty repairs are still done by the dealer network.

Are you a Porsche dealer?

No. We're an independent workshop in La Línea, and we'll always tell you which parts we're fitting and why.

Can you collect from Gibraltar or Sotogrande?

We're about 5 minutes by car from the frontier and about 26 minutes from Sotogrande. We can also collect and deliver the car; the price depends on where you are, so just ask.
