Golfs make up a big share of what comes through our door, so as a Volkswagen mechanic for Estepona we know the daily-driver Golf and the weekend Golf R equally well. VAG is our most common work at SRM Performance.
For performance, the Golf GTI and Golf R with the 2.0 TFSI EA888 are a great starting point: remap, intake, intercooler and a stainless exhaust, built to whatever you're after. But Volkswagen also means vans. Transporter T5, T6 and T6.1s used for work, surf trips or as campers look right sitting low on air suspension, and air lets you lift them back up when they're loaded.
Then there's the proper maintenance: timing belts on TDI engines, dual-mass flywheel clutches, DSG oil and filter changes on time, and the EA888 water pump, which has a habit of leaking. Between short runs round town and long hauls on the A-7, Estepona cars feel all of it.

Driving route to the workshop
From Estepona and Cancelada
About 45 km on the A-7 or AP-7 to San Roque, then into La Línea. If you're bringing a Transporter for air suspension, let us know beforehand what it usually carries and how you use it.
Common Volkswagen jobs

Frequently asked questions
What does a Golf R need for Stage 2?
Usually intake, intercooler and exhaust parts on top of the map. We'll tell you what makes sense for your car's condition and how you drive it.
Can you fit air suspension to a Transporter camper?
Yes, but the weight of the conversion and kit has to be accounted for. We'll talk it through to pick the right setup. Suspension changes can affect the ITV.
How often should the DSG oil be changed?
It depends on the gearbox. Wet-clutch DSGs usually need an oil and filter change every few years or so many kilometres. Send us the model and we'll check.
Can you do the timing belt on my Golf TDI?
Yes, belt, tensioners, idlers and water pump, which are best done together on these engines.
