Plenty of Fuengirola drivers looking for a Mercedes mechanic want two things from the same garage: sensible care for a C 220 d that does the school run, and someone who knows what to do with an AMG. A Mercedes in Fuengirola tends to live a life of short hops: into town, out to the Miramar, up to Mijas and home again. That's hard on the OM651 and OM654 diesels and on automatic gearboxes, both of which appreciate fresh oil sooner than the service indicator suggests. On some four-cylinder petrols, the M271 and M274 in particular, a rattle on a cold start is the timing chain asking to be looked at.
On the AMG side, what people from this end of the coast usually want is a remap and an exhaust. An A 45 or CLA 45 with the M133 or M139 responds very well to a properly written map, and a V8 C 63 deserves an exhaust that sounds the part without droning all the way down the AP-7. In most cases, yes. We check the car first and explain what's realistic for your engine and gearbox. We won't quote figures before we've seen it.
My diesel C-Class only does short runs around Fuengirola. What should I watch?
Engine and gearbox oil, the battery and the glow plugs. Short trips never let the engine get properly warm, and that wears things faster than you'd think. If you're coming in for something else, we'll check them while it's here.
Will a louder AMG exhaust pass the ITV?
It depends on the system and the car. Valves help keep noise under control, but homologation and the ITV are the owner's responsibility. We'll talk you through the risks first.
