SRM Performance is an independent Mercedes-Benz and AMG specialist in La Línea de la Concepción, about 2 km from the Gibraltar border. Servicing, engine and gearbox faults, custom exhausts and remapping, all in one workshop.
Mercedes and AMG are among the makes we see most. That ranges from a diesel C-Class doing the daily run along the A-7 to a C 63 that only comes out at weekends. Very different cars, but the same rule applies to both: when something goes wrong, you want someone who knows where these engines tend to give trouble.
We're not a main dealer and don't pretend to be. We're a mechanical, fabrication and tuning workshop, so we can carry out a routine service with the correct-spec oil and parts, and we can also build a stainless exhaust or adjust the software on an AMG if that's what you're after.
Common Mercedes and AMG faults and jobs
OM651 timing chain
The 2.1 four-cylinder diesel (C 220 d, E 220 d, Sprinter and plenty more) is known for chain stretch at higher mileage, particularly on earlier engines. The giveaway is a rattle from cold. Far cheaper to deal with early than after it jumps a tooth. We replace timing chains in the workshop.
OM642 V6 diesel oil leaks
The 3.0 V6 diesel (320 CDI, 350 CDI, ML, GL) is known for leaking from the oil cooler seals in the valley of the engine. You'll usually smell it before you see it. It's a labour-heavy job because much of the intake has to come off.
Camshaft adjusters on the M271 and M274
The four-cylinder petrols commonly rattle on start-up and leak oil through the camshaft adjuster solenoids, sometimes wicking into the wiring loom. Worth replacing before the oil reaches the engine harness.
7G-Tronic gearbox
Harsh shifts, limp mode or missing gears are often down to the gearbox conductor plate, or to fluid that has never been changed. We'd suggest a gearbox oil change even though the factory schedule rarely calls for one.
Airmatic suspension
On E-Class, S-Class, CLS and GL with factory air suspension, leaking air struts and a tired compressor are why the car sits low on one corner in the morning. We repair factory air suspension.
AMG exhausts and remaps
For the A 45, C 43, C 63 and E 63 we build custom stainless exhausts and valves and carry out remaps, to the owner's spec. Bear in mind this can affect the ITV or MOT, and keeping the car road-legal is the owner's responsibility.

Will servicing with you affect my Mercedes warranty?
As general information: under EU rules you can have your car serviced at an independent garage without losing the manufacturer's warranty, as long as the service schedule is followed and parts of matching quality are used. Warranty repairs themselves are still handled by the dealer network.
My Mercedes rattles when I start it. Should I worry?
Don't ignore it. Record a short video with the sound and send it to us on WhatsApp at +34 642 63 66 39 with the model and engine. We'll tell you whether it needs looking at straight away.
Can you build a custom exhaust for my AMG?
Yes. We fabricate exhausts, downpipes and valved systems in stainless steel with TIG welding, built to your spec. A modified exhaust can cause problems at the ITV or MOT, so we'll talk it through before starting.
