Driving route to the workshop
Life in Jimena and Castellar runs at a different pace from the coast. White villages on the hillside, the Los Alcornocales park all around, fincas reached by dirt tracks, and the winding A-405 as the link down to San Roque. A car is not a luxury here. You need it for everything, from a doctor's appointment to the daily commute to Algeciras.
That kind of driving leaves its mark. Hills and bends work brakes, clutches and ball joints hard. Unmade tracks are tough on dampers, bushes and underbody protection. Summer dust clogs air and cabin filters in no time. And because a lot of people round here run older, simpler cars that are easy to keep going, hoses, gaskets and the cooling system need watching before an August heatwave finds the weak spot.
This is also classic car country. An old Seat handed down through the family, a battered four-by-four that has spent half its life on a finca, an eighties sports car tucked away in a barn. Classic restoration is part of what we do, covering mechanical work, bodywork and paint, along with brake caliper and headlight restoration. We look the car over with you first, tell you honestly what can be saved, and quote before any work begins. Longer projects can be split into stages.
With 30 to 40 km each way, it makes sense to send us photos on WhatsApp before you set off, so we can tell you whether the trip is worth it that day.
Repairs and classics
For Jimena and Castellar we mostly repair cars that split their time between the sierra and the main road: brakes, suspension, clutches, timing belts and cooling systems. And when someone pulls a classic out of the barn, we help get it back on the road. Related services:
Frequently asked questions
Do you work on old and classic cars?
Yes. We restore classics, including mechanical work, bodywork and paint, brake calipers and headlights. Send us a few photos and we will tell you where we would start.
My car is old and high-mileage. Is it worth repairing?
Quite often, yes, especially simple engines that have been looked after. We will check it over and tell you straight what it would cost to put right and whether that makes sense against what the car is worth.
I drive on dirt tracks a lot. What should I get checked?
Dampers, bushes, ball joints, CV boots and the underside in general, plus the air filter, which clogs far sooner in the dust. If you hear knocks or the car pulls to one side, bring it in.
It is a long way to come and go in a day. What are my options?
Talk to us on WhatsApp first, so any parts are already here when you arrive. We don't have a courtesy car, but we can collect and deliver the car. The price depends on where you are, so ask us for one.
How much does a classic restoration cost?
It depends entirely on the car's condition and how far you want to go. Once we have seen it we give you a quote, and bigger jobs can be split into stages so you always know what is being done and what it costs.
