Ford has built some of the best-loved hot hatches of the last twenty years. The second-generation Focus RS with its five-cylinder, the third-generation RS with the 2.3 EcoBoost, where some early cars have a known head gasket problem, and the Focus ST and Fiesta ST, which respond brilliantly to a remap and an exhaust. The Mustang, in 5.0 V8 or 2.3 EcoBoost form, turns up now and then as well.
On everyday Fords there are two things we come across a lot. The 1.0 EcoBoost has a timing belt that runs in oil and breaks down if the wrong oil goes in. And the dry dual-clutch Powershift automatic on some Focus and Fiesta models is known for juddering. We diagnose it carefully and tell you what's worth doing.

Frequently asked questions
What oil does my 1.0 EcoBoost need?
It needs oil to a specific Ford spec, because the timing belt runs in it. The wrong oil speeds up belt wear. We'll change it with the right one.
Do you remap Focus STs and Fiesta STs?
Yes, after a check-over. They respond very well, but the clutch and cooling need looking at first. We'll also explain what it means for the ITV.
My Focus RS Mk3 is losing coolant. Could it be the head gasket?
Some early Mk3 RS cars have a known head gasket issue. Don't keep driving it like that: bring it in to be diagnosed.
