Driving route to the workshop

Plenty of Sotogrande households run more than one car: something sensible for the school run and the supermarket, something open-topped for the summer, and quite often a Porsche or a classic that gets looked after more carefully than anything else on the drive. That last one is the car you don't want to hand to just anyone. At SRM Performance the servicing, the performance work and the restoration all happen in the same workshop, so the car isn't passed between three different garages.

What people ask us for from this side of the bay tends to fit that picture. Porsche servicing and repairs, from a water-cooled 911 to a Cayenne or Macan. Performance work: ECU remaps, custom exhausts TIG-welded in stainless or aluminium, exhaust valves, lowering kits and air suspension. And classics: restoration, bodywork and paint, headlight and brake caliper restoration, the sort of jobs that need patience more than speed.

The area leaves its mark on cars too. Salt air off the marina and the beach gets into exhausts, brakes and underbodies. Holiday-home cars sit for months, then get used hard all summer. And short hops around the estate mean engines rarely get properly warm. We bear all of that in mind when we look over a car from Sotogrande, Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro or San Martín del Tesorillo.

Before we touch anything, we tell you what we've found and what it will cost. Modifications are done to your spec, but keeping the car road-legal for the ITV (or MOT, if it's on Gibraltar plates) is the owner's responsibility, and we'll talk it through plainly before we start.

Porsches, performance work and classics. A 996 or 997 due its service, a Cayman that deserves a better voice from a custom exhaust, a turbocharged car you'd like to wake up with a remap, or an older car that ought to look and drive the way it once did. Frequently asked questions

Do you work on Porsches if I'm coming from Sotogrande?

Yes, Porsche is one of the makes we see most: 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, Macan and Panamera. We also do specific jobs such as the IMS bearing, Cayenne coolant pipes and exhaust valves, and we work on air-cooled 911s.

Do you restore classic cars?

Yes. We do classic restoration, bodywork and paint, headlight restoration and brake caliper restoration. Send us photos on WhatsApp and we'll tell you how we'd approach it and where we'd start.

My car lives at a holiday home in Sotogrande and sits for months. What should I do?

Before you use it in earnest again, it's worth checking the battery, tyres, brake discs (salt air rusts them quickly) and fluid levels. We can give it a once-over at the start of the season so it doesn't catch you out.

Will an exhaust or a remap get through the ITV?

It depends on the change. A louder exhaust, exhaust valves or a pops and bangs map can cause trouble at the ITV or with noise rules. We build to your spec, but keeping the car legal is the owner's responsibility. We can also help with the ITV and homologation paperwork.

How do I get a quote from Sotogrande?

Message us on WhatsApp on +34 642 63 66 39 with the make, model, year and what you're after. Photos help. We'll come back with a quote, or suggest you bring the car in so we can see it.
