Golf GTI, Golf R, Polo GTI, Tiguan, Touareg: if you run a Volkswagen in Sotogrande and need a car mechanic, the Golf is probably the car we work on more than any other. At SRM Performance in La Línea we know it inside out, from a basic service to a full performance build.
The EA888 engine in the GTI and R has a few faults that come up again and again: the plastic water pump and thermostat housing, which eventually starts weeping coolant, and the crankcase breather valve. DSG gearboxes need looking after. The six-speed wet-clutch DQ250 wants regular oil changes, while the seven-speed dry-clutch DQ200 fitted to smaller engines has its own record with mechatronics and clutch packs. On the Golf R, don't forget the Haldex oil either.
From there, whatever you fancy: a staged remap, a TIG-welded custom exhaust, lowering springs or air suspension. And if you use a California or a Transporter for beach days or carrying the golf clubs, we'll keep that running too.

Frequently asked questions
My Golf is losing a bit of coolant. What could it be?
On EA888 engines it's very often the water pump or thermostat housing. Worth looking at soon, before the level drops far enough to overheat the engine.
How often does DSG oil need changing?
The six-speed DQ250 usually needs it roughly every 60,000 km. The seven-speed DQ200 doesn't have the same scheduled oil change. Tell us the model and we'll be specific.
What's a Stage 1 on a Golf GTI?
A remap on an otherwise standard car, with no hardware changes. We check the engine and clutch first, and explain what you gain and what it means for the ITV.
Do you service California campervans?
Yes, Transporters and Californias. Send us the year and engine.
How do I get a quote?
WhatsApp us on +34 642 63 66 39 with the model and what you need. We'll quote once we've seen the car or photos on WhatsApp.
