Ford mechanic in La Línea

We're an independent Ford mechanic in La Línea de la Concepción, about 2 km from the Gibraltar border. Whether it's a daily Fiesta or a modified Focus RS, we check it over, tell you what we find and give you a price before any work starts.

Fords are everywhere on this stretch of coast. Fiestas and Focuses doing the school run, Kugas and Pumas for families, Transits and Rangers for work. We aren't a Ford dealer or an authorised repairer, but we handle the servicing, faults and engine work these cars need as the miles build up.

The EcoBoost petrol engines have a few well-known habits worth knowing about. The 1.0 three-cylinder runs a cambelt that sits in the engine oil, and the 1.5 and 1.6 units have a history of losing coolant. If your level keeps dropping with no visible leak, or a temperature warning comes on, get it looked at before the engine actually overheats.

Then there are the fast ones. Fiesta STs, Focus STs and Focus RSs are cars people like to make their own: exhausts, downpipes, remaps, suspension. We do that work to your spec once we're happy the engine is healthy. Keeping the car road-legal for the ITV or MOT is the owner's responsibility, and we'll tell you what might affect it.

Common Ford jobs

  • 1.0 EcoBoost wet cambelt

The timing belt on this engine runs in oil. With the wrong oil or stretched service intervals it can break down early, and the debris can block the oil pump pickup. We inspect it and replace it with the full kit.

  • EcoBoost coolant loss

Early 1.0 engines had coolant hose and expansion tank problems, and the 1.5 and 1.6 are known for faults that let coolant into the cylinders. We pressure-test and diagnose properly before recommending anything.

  • Powershift automatic gearbox

The dry dual-clutch Powershift used on some Focus, Fiesta and C-Max models is known for judder and slipping when pulling away. We diagnose it and talk you through the options.

  • Focus RS Mk3 head gasket

Early Mk3 Focus RS cars with the 2.3 EcoBoost have a reputation for using coolant through the head gasket. If yours is losing coolant, sort that before thinking about more power.

  • Clutch and dual-mass flywheel

TDCi diesels and harder-driven ST models are tough on clutches and flywheels. Rattles at idle, vibration or a slipping pedal are the usual signs. We replace the full assembly.

  • Exhausts, downpipes and remaps for ST and RS

TIG-welded stainless exhausts, downpipes and custom maps for the Fiesta ST, Focus ST and Focus RS, always after a health check on the engine.

Frequently asked questions

Are you a Ford main dealer?

No, we're an independent garage. We service to the manufacturer's intervals using parts of equivalent quality.

How often does the 1.0 EcoBoost cambelt need changing?

It depends on the year and version, and Ford has revised the interval over time. Using oil of the correct specification matters as much as the mileage. Send us the year and engine and we'll check.

Can you remap my Focus ST or RS?

Yes, we write custom maps. We check plugs, coil packs, boost leaks and the clutch first, because more power on an engine with problems only makes them worse.

My Ford is on Gibraltar plates. Can you work on it?

Yes. We're in La Línea, about 2 km from the frontier. It's about 5 minutes by car from the frontier, and when you drop the car off we'll run you back to the frontier. We can also collect and deliver the car; the price depends on where you are, so just ask.
