Honda mechanic in La Línea
SRM Performance is an independent Honda mechanic in La Línea de la Concepción, two kilometres from the Gibraltar border. From a Jazz that never lets anyone down to a Civic Type R that lives near the limiter.
Honda engines are a bit different. The naturally aspirated VTEC units rev high, the turbocharged later Type Rs pull hard from low down, and almost all of them will cover big mileages if they're looked after. That makes sensible servicing worth doing, rather than waiting for something to go wrong.
One thing many owners don't know: several Honda engines, including the K-series, have mechanical valve clearances that need checking and adjusting from time to time. If the engine sounds tappety or the idle isn't steady, that may be the cause. It's also common for the VTEC solenoid gasket or the oil pressure switch to start weeping oil with age.
The Civic Type R is the one that gets people excited round here. FN2, FK2, FK8 or FL5, each has its own character and needs: clutches, brakes and oil, especially when it's driven hard up the Ronda road or on track. If you want a stainless exhaust, an intake or a map, we do it to your spec after checking the car over. Keeping it ITV and MOT-legal is the owner's responsibility.
Common Honda jobs
Valve clearance adjustment
Many Honda engines use screw-type adjusters set by hand. We check them cold and set them to the manufacturer's spec.
VTEC oil leaks
The VTEC solenoid gasket and oil pressure switch are classic leak points. They're straightforward to replace if caught early.
K24 timing chain tensioner
On 2.4 CR-Vs and Accords, a rattle for a few seconds on a cold start usually points to the timing chain tensioner.
Civic Type R clutch and gearbox
Clutches that slip after a remap, worn synchros and gearbox oil overdue for a change. We check it and put it right.
Jazz and HR-V CVT gearboxes
Judder or whine from the continuously variable gearbox. It often starts with fluid that has never been changed.
i-CTDi and i-DTEC diesels
Injectors, clutches and dual-mass flywheels on the 2.2 and 1.6 diesels in the Civic, Accord and CR-V.

Frequently asked questions
Are you a Honda main dealer?
No, we're an independent garage. We follow Honda's service intervals and tell you what's done at each service.
How often do the valve clearances need doing?
It depends on the engine. On many Hondas the manufacturer specifies a periodic check. If you don't know when it was last done, it's worth having a look.
Can you build a custom exhaust for a Civic Type R?
Yes, in stainless steel with TIG welding, made to your spec. A louder exhaust can affect the ITV or MOT, and keeping the car legal is down to the owner.
Do you work on S2000s and older Civics?
Yes. Servicing, repairs and classic restoration are all part of what we do. Tell us what you've got on WhatsApp.
