Hyundai and Kia mechanic in La Línea
SRM Performance is an independent Hyundai and Kia mechanic in La Línea de la Concepción, two kilometres from Gibraltar. We look after everyday Tucsons and Sportages as well as i30 Ns and Stingers.
Hyundai and Kia share platforms, engines and gearboxes, so what's true for one is nearly always true for the other. They've become a common sight locally over the last few years: Sportages and Tucsons for families, Ceeds and i30s for the commute, Niro and Kona hybrids and EVs for town driving.
Two subjects come up again and again. The first is the seven-speed dry dual-clutch automatic (7DCT), which on some cars judders when pulling away or creeping in traffic, especially in a lot of stop-start driving. The second is the GDi and T-GDi direct-injection engines, which can build up carbon on the intake valves over time. You'll notice it as a lumpy idle or a loss of response.
Then there's the fun side. The i30 N, i20 N and Kona N have turned Hyundai into a brand for enthusiasts, and the twin-turbo V6 Kia Stinger has its own following. Clutches, brakes, stainless exhausts or a remap: we'll do it to your spec after checking the car over. Staying within ITV, MOT and noise rules is the owner's responsibility, and we'll flag anything that might affect it.
Common Hyundai and Kia jobs
Seven-speed DCT gearbox
Diagnosing judder and slip, reading the gearbox ECU and running clutch relearns. And when it comes to it, we replace the DCT clutch too.
Carbon build-up on GDi engines
Direct injection doesn't wash the intake valves. If the engine shakes when cold or feels flat, we check whether carbon is the cause or something else is.
i30 N, i20 N and Kona N servicing
Oil, brakes and clutches on cars that get driven properly. On manual N cars, the clutch is what suffers first once the power goes up.
CRDi diesels
Injectors, clutches and dual-mass flywheels on the 1.6 and 2.0 CRDi engines in the Tucson, Sportage and Ceed.
Exhausts and remaps for N cars and the Stinger
TIG-welded stainless exhausts, downpipes and maps to your spec, always after a health check on the engine.

Services for your car
Frequently asked questions
Are you an official Hyundai or Kia dealer?
No, we're an independent garage. We service to the manufacturer's intervals. If your car is still under the factory warranty, check its terms before deciding where to have it serviced.
My DCT Tucson judders when pulling away. Is it serious?
Not always. Sometimes a software update or a relearn sorts it, and sometimes the clutch is worn. We diagnose it and tell you what's going on before replacing anything.
Can you remap an i30 N?
Yes, we write custom maps. We check plugs, coil packs, boost leaks and the clutch first, because extra torque on a tired clutch won't last long.
Do you work on hybrid and electric Hyundais and Kias?
General servicing (brakes, suspension, tyres, routine checks), yes. We also repair the high-voltage system on hybrids and EVs.
