SRM Performance is an independent Jaguar specialist in La Línea de la Concepción, about 2 km from the Gibraltar border. Saloons, sports cars and SUVs, from the diesel XF to the V8 F-Type.
Jaguar is one of the makes we see often, which makes sense: there are plenty around here, many of them on Gibraltar or UK plates. They're comfortable cars with lovely engines, but they don't take kindly to neglected maintenance.
Jaguar and Land Rover share a lot of engines (the 3.0 V6 diesel, the 5.0 V8 and the four-cylinder Ingeniums), so their known faults overlap, and what we learn on one carries straight over to the other.
We're not a Jaguar dealer. We're a mechanical, fabrication and tuning workshop, so as well as repairs we can build a custom stainless exhaust for an F-Type if that's what you have in mind.
Common Jaguar faults and jobs
3.0 V6 diesel in the XF, XJ and F-Pace
The same V6 diesel used by Land Rover is known for crankshaft and bearing failures, often linked to oil condition and pressure. Frequent oil changes with the correct spec are the best prevention.
Supercharged V6 and V8
On the 3.0 V6 petrol (F-Type, XE S, XF S, F-Pace S), water pump leaks and a rattling supercharger coupler are well known. On the 5.0 V8, early timing chain tensioners.
2.0 Ingenium timing chain
The four-cylinder Ingenium engines in the XE, XF, E-Pace and F-Pace, the diesels especially, are known for timing chain stretch. We replace timing chains in the workshop.
XK and XKR chain tensioners
The 4.2 V8 in the 2000s XK, XKR, XJ and S-Type is known for wear in the timing chain tensioners and guides. A metallic rattle at start-up is the sign.
XJ air suspension
The X350 and X351 XJ use rear air suspension, and with age it starts leaking and the car sags. We repair factory air suspension.
F-Type exhausts
The F-Type sounds good from the factory, but plenty of owners want more. We build custom exhausts and valved systems to the owner's spec. These can affect the ITV or MOT, and keeping the car road-legal is the owner's responsibility.

Frequently asked questions
My Jaguar is on Gibraltar plates. Can you work on it?
Yes, we're about 2 km from the frontier. We prepare cars for the Gibraltar MOT; the test itself is done in Gibraltar. Message us with the model and what you need.
What does a high-mileage diesel XF need?
Frequent oil changes with the correct spec, a check for coolant leaks and, at higher mileage, an automatic gearbox fluid change. We'll talk you through it with the car in front of us.
Can you build a custom exhaust for an F-Type?
Yes, in stainless steel with TIG welding, with or without valves. We'll talk it over first, because a modified exhaust can cause problems at the ITV or MOT.
